Reason #1156 Why McCain Does Not Deserve Your Vote
I saw this on Crooks and Liars and also read a brief response on it from the anti-vaccinationist-hating Orac. Briefly:
At a town hall meeting Friday in Texas, Sen. John McCain, R-Ariz., declared that "there’s strong evidence" that thimerosal, a mercury-based preservative that was once in many childhood vaccines, is responsible for the increased diagnoses of autism in the U.S. -- a position in stark contrast with the view of the medical establishment.Oh dear lord. McCain's ignorance of science or political pandering or both has truly reached new heights. Not only that, but remember that the jury is still out on whether condoms prevent transmission of HIV and other sexually transmitted infections, and evolution is apparently influenced by the invisible hand of capitalism...errrr...divine intervention. A candidate who either has no sophisticated understanding of science and/or willfully distorts scientific findings for political purposes has no business running the country in my opinion.
[...]McCain said, per ABC News' Bret Hovell, that "It’s indisputable that (autism) is on the rise amongst children, the question is what’s causing it. And we go back and forth and there’s strong evidence that indicates that it’s got to do with a preservative in vaccines."
McCain said there’s "divided scientific opinion" on the matter, with "many on the other side that are credible scientists that are saying that’s not the cause of it."
But, again, like any of you needed another reason to distrust and despise McCain's candidacy.

May I reiterate my view that McCain is a horrible human being and dumb as a rock and the media obsession with painting him as an honest tough-talking moderate maverick is a load of crap?
Yes? Thanks.
